The quaint town is a cluster of little islands, located on the banks of the Vembanad Lake in the Kuttanad region of Kerala. Renowned for its natural beauty, Kumarakom is an ideal base to experience the famous Kerala
backwaters, replete with meandering lagoons, coconut trees, endless
rows of paddy fields interspersed by waterways and canals. Just 16 Km
from Kottayam, Kumarakom is also home to a bird sanctuary.

Kettuvallams and canoes floating up and down. The lake and its

| Overview of the destinationKumarakom : 13 Kms, from Kottayam lies the sleepy little village of Kumarakom on the Vembanad lake. Kumarakom offers exotic sightseeing, boating and fishing experiences. Food, sight-seeing and shopping The major sight seeing option at Kumarakom is boat cruise. There are Country boats (motorised & non motorised) and Houseboats for the boat cruise experience. Activities & things to do Do try to go for a Housebaot Cruise along the backwaters. Because backwaters in Kerala are unique and can not be seen anywhere else in Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. The nearest Airport is Cochin International Airport, which is approximatly 95 KMs from Kumarakom.
